Luey P. Newton - David Ruffin...

I know this song is old, but rarely do you run across a song that makes you want to down a glass of cognac and then go slightly harder on these hoes.

This is that song...

Download: Luey P. Newton - David Ruffin
Shout out to D for putting me on to this track.

For you those of you who have no idea who David Ruffin is, stop everything you're doing and go watch The Temptations movie...or just watch this clip. There's no doubt in my mind that David Ruffin was "cold on them hoes"...no surprises there. But I doubt if his pimp hand was as fast as one of the greatest pimps in the history of pimpin'....

Drake - Over...

Here's the much anticipated 1st single off of Drake's upcoming debut album, Thank Me Later...

Drake - Over (produced by Boi-1da)

New Young Jeezy, Usher, Little Brother, Fabolous....

Fabolous - All The Way Turnt Up Freestyle
I swear I've been dying to hear at least one more rapper spit over this beat. Off of Fab's upcoming mixtape with DJ Drama, There Is No Competition 2.

Usher - Venus vs Mars
Okay, so here's some career advice for you Mr. Raymond...
1.) Get back with Chili, cheat on her so she can dump you, then go record an album about the whole thing.
2.) Stop wearing leather capris.

Young Jeezy - Lose My Mind ft. Plies
Ahh yes, I can see it now...hood chicks throughout the USA will be in the clubs this summer rockin' their House of Dereon track suits, smelling like grape blunt paper and Hennessy while bussin' it wide open to this song.

Method Man, Ghostface Killah & Raekwon - Criminology 2.5
When I first heard these three were talking about doing an album, I thought it would take about as long as OB4CL2 took to come out. Well I was wrong...March 30th.

Little Brother - Curtain Call
This is off of LeftBack, LB's last album. *tear drop* It's just not fair...OJ Da Juiceman is still rapping but Little Brother is calling it quits. The end of days is upon us.

Mikkey Halsted - The Best You nEver Heard...

Mikkey Halsted...the name may or may not ring a bell to those of you outside of Chicago, but he's been on the rap scene for quite some time. He was signed to Kanye West’s label before Kanye was signed to The ROC. Back when he was signed to Cash Money, he taught Lil' Wayne how to rap without saying "Wobblely, Wobblely" in every song. Now he's preparing his debut album, The Photo Album (produced by NO I.D.), for its release. In the meantime, or shall I say the in-between time, Mikkey's dropping this mixtape and the the upcoming Dark Room mixtape in an effort to hold his fans over until the album drops.

Hosted by DJ Toure Stylz, this mixtape (which is a collection of old, new and unreleased material), will help you get familiar with the uncrowned king...Mikkey Halsted, "Get Right or Get Left"...

New Consequence, Yelawolf, Ludacris, Noreaga...

Most of these songs have been out for a while. I'm still playing catch-up....I have about 20 more songs and about 5 mixtapes to post. I was hopping on my mom's neighbors wireless internet but they must've gotten hip because they suddenly protected their connections. I should be back in my place by the end of this week so bare with me til then....

Consequence - Whatever You Want Bad Boy (Remix) Ft. Diddy & The LOX
So this is the 2nd remix of this song. I liked the original, the 1st remix as well and this remix is actually okay....but they could do 3 more and

Yelawolf - Deer Mama
I have no clue what a Yelawolf is but I fux wit this. Guess I'll finally go and listen to his Trunk Muzik mixtape. Btw this song is off of SMKA - The 808 Experiment: Vol 2 and that's not a typo, they spelled "Deer" like that on purpose.

Ludacris - “O Let’s Do It (Freestyle)”
As hard as Luda goes in sometimes, will he ever be mentioned in anybody's top 10 list?

Noreaga - Exhibit CNN
Let's get something straight. No one, and I mean no one can touch Jay Electronica when it comes to rapping over this beat. But out of all the rappers I've heard spit over this, suprisingly Nore's version is the only one I like. Jus Blaze agrees as well.

New Reflection Eternal, Drake, Skillz, Jojo Pellegrino...

You know the deal, I've been away for a minute so I'm playin' catch up. If you don't already have these, here you go...

Reflection Eternal - Just Begun Ft. Jay Electronica, J. Cole & Mos Def
If Jesus listened to hip-hop this is what he'd have in his ipod.

Drake - It's Been A Pleasure
Despite rappin' along side Baby for damn near his whole album, the yellow one hasn't lost a step. "If amazing was a young b***h, I'd be going to jail cuz I'm f**kin' amazing"

Skillz - Rap Up 09'
Smh, here's this guy with his one song a year....now back to his job at Chik-fil-a.

Jojo Pellegrino - Triple Homicide Ft. Sean P & Inspectah Deck
I remember Jojo from a few years back. I thought he went to school or got a day job and gave up on rap. Oh well...I only gave this a listen because "the brokest rapper you know" is on it.

Bonus: Want to see a video of Drake on Nickelodeon's version of "MTV Cribs" from back in his Degrassi days? Hit the jump...

New Sade, Alicia Keys, Joell Ortiz, Vinnie Paz...

Her 1st single in 8 years. No extra commentary here...the name Sade speaks for itself.

Nope, Drake's not rapping on this....he's just singing background vocals. Am I the only one that finds it funny that Alicia Keys went and got Drake to sing background on one of her songs?

Joell Ortiz - Make It Without You
Joell's grandmother passed away the other day and he raps about it over Alicia's "Tryin' To Sleep With A Broken Heart". Since none of my grandparents are around anymore, I definitely know where he's coming from on this song.

I have no clue who Vinnie Paz is. So it should make it obvious that I posted this song because it features the Clipse.

New Ludacris, Wale, Jamie Foxx, Kelis and....

...some other people. Okay, once again I'm playin' catch up, so most of these aren't new...they've just been sitting around in blog purgatory.

Ludacris - How Low Can You Go
*sigh* This song is okay for high school pom pom teams and footworkin' crews here in Chicago, but I'm gonna need Luda to go a lil' harder like he did on this. That way people just might start mentioning him when they make their best rappers list.

Consequence - Whatever You Want Remix Ft. Common, Big Sean & KiD CuDi
I fux with this, but then again the original was the ish to me. Unfortunately, I have a better chance at blowing up as a rapper than Consequence.

Wale - Beast
"You never Reggie Bush me if you've been Ray J'd" Ha ha...he made a funny. He should've put this on his album. Not that it would've helped it sell more, but I prefer this over some of his other tracks.

Jamie Foxx - Speak French Ft. Gucci Mane
I don't care for this (at the moment), but I can definitely see this goin' hard in both clubs, regular and strip. Shout out to "Bottoms Up" in St. Louis (Brooklyn, IL to be exact)....I'll be back. Change for a $100 anyone?

Kelis - Acapella
This might be a hit......in the dance/techno clubs. White lines and glow sticks all day. I'm proud of her for actually going back to work and not focusing all of her energy towards draining Nas' life force.

Nelly - She Got Me
This shit goes beyond terrible....like if terrible was Earth this song would be Pluto. This shit sounds like a mash-up of Akon, Luther Vandross and Mtume. I don't even think Nelly raps on this, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it.

Gucci Mane Ft. Cam’ron & Lil Wayne - Stupid Wild
Ahhh yes, this is one of those songs that reminds me of that group of guys in the club dancin' around, throwin' up gang signs and they all smell of weed, Hennessy, ignorance and failure.

Charles Hamilton - Charles Hamilton Is Back

Just when you thought he didn't have anymore rings left in him...he's back. I gotta give it to him, at this point I was expecting him to enroll in some random college, major in graphic design and give up on rap...but he's still rappin'. While I like this song, let's be honest...he's only delaying the inevitable

Welcome To Chicago's iLLaNOise...

...is latest mixtape from my brother from another, Jay-iLLa. The official press release, download link and tracklist are after the jump, but let me just say a few things really quick...

1.) Get familiar....this is a REAL mixtape.....from a REAL DJ.

2.) No, he's not screaming his name and a bunch of bullshit over an iTunes playlist.

3.) No, he didn't just pick up a laptop, install iTunes, purchase Serato and start spinning yesterday.

4.) ......Go IL or Go Home.

"The Windy City’s own iLLaNOise aka Jay iLLa presents his latest mixtape, Chicago's iLLaNOise. This is the first of an upcoming series of mixes that merges new age mixtape style with an old school mixtape feel. With each installment, iLLaNOise will cover different genres of music including 80s, house, pop and more!

iLLaNOise blends well known gems from the likes of Jay-Z, Drake and Notorious B.I.G with original tracks from some of Chicago’s hottest local talent. “I wanted to pick fun records that my fans can relate to and at the same time, provide a platform for Chicago’s unsigned talent,” said Jay iLLa of his inspiration behind the project."

Tracklist:
1) Intro: Ladies & Gentlemen

2) Jay Z - Where I'm From

3) Dirty Money - Angels

4) Kane (The League) - The Precursor

5) Drake & Saukretes - The Search

6) Kidz N The Hall - Jukebox

7) Mint Condition - Pretty Brown Eyes (Break)

8) Amerie & Trey Songs - Pretty Brown Eyes

9) Mike 100's - Cap It

10) Pac Div - Never

11) Wale & Gucci Mane - Pretty Girls

12) Wale & Jazmine Sullivan - World Tour

13) J Cole - Grown Simba

14) Agacee (The League) - Charasmatic

15) Kane (The League) & Phil G - 25 Lighters

16) I Get It In - Omarion & Lil Wayne

New Jay Electronica, Apathy, Skyzoo, J. Cole, Vstylez...

Sorry, no Jeezy, Drake, Wayne or Jay-Z in this music post. I figure all of those guys get enough exposure as it is, so I decided to post some music from a few artist who don't have the spotlight shinin' on them. Enjoy...

Jay Electronica - Exhibit C (Snippet)
This snippet goes harder than most rappers' entire album. Definitely one of the most underrated rappers in the game. If you don't agree after hearing this, please go find the closet expressway and proceed to play Frogger. Btw that sample Just Blaze used is from one of my favorite old school artist, Billy Stewart, who just happens to be the artist for the upcoming Marker's Mark post.

Apathy - Guys And Girls Ft. Blue Raspberry
This off of Apathy's new album Wanna Snuggle?, which was pretty good btw. He goes in on some of the paranoid traits that both men and women display while in relationships that are void of trust. Apathy's been out for a long time and I'm just not discovering him this year...better late than never though.

Skyzoo - Dear Whoever
Ever since I heard Skyzoo's 9th Wonder produced mixtape, Cloud 9: The 3 Day High, I've been checkin' for him. This song is off of his new album, The Salvation.

J. Cole - Simba
Chances are you recognize the name J. Cole from his feature on the song "A Star Is Born" off of the Blueprint 3. Then again he's been buzzin' all over the internet for quite some time, but I never took the time out to listen him. Then D Grizzle put me on to this song off of J. Cole's mixtape, The Come Up and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not holding my breath for a debut album considering the fact that he's signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation.

Vstylez - Clash of the Titans Ft. Royce 5'9", Rapper Big Pooh, Elzhi and Phat Kat
Never heard of Vstylez but I fux with just about everybody on this track so I decided to check it out...I wasn't disappointed.

The Thought of H-Town and Jodeci...

..making a song together would be hot if it was 1993. Unfortunately for them, it's 2009 and....well, there is no "and". The fact that it's 2009 should be reason for them to leave well enough alone, but nope they had to go and do this...
Umm "Knockin Da Boots 2K9 Yo Heels Off"??....I'm speechless...and confused. I mean how in the hell did this come about? Has there been a demand for a Jodeci and H-Town collaboration that I just somehow managed to miss? I mean seriously, I don't think anybody's been holding their breath to hear these two groups together...if they were they would've died about 16 years ago. I guess they're both planning a comeback and they figure two washed-up 90's R&B groups are better than one. *sigh* What's next?

Mokenstef and Zhane'? Fuck it...let's take back even further, what about Ready For The World and Troop? The sad part is that I was a fan of both of these groups...but damn, sometimes you don't have to see the credits roll to know that the movie's over. Smh, well in their defense this would've been a hit back in the early '90s. I just hope that they don't go on tour together because you know what happens when K-CI & JoJo perform...

New Robin Thicke, Big Boi, Birdman, Chris Brown...

Robin Thicke - Sex Therapy
WARNING: This is some greazy shit. I'm talking rose petals, bubble bath, candles, tripod, camcorder, Rachel Ray Olive Oil, maple syrup, strawberries, french toast, turkey bacon, omelette type shit. Sorry I went off on a tangent, but it's been a while since I've had a nice breakfast. *sigh* I'm a big hungry bastard...

Big Boi - Shine Blockas Ft. Gucci Mane
Damn, Gucci Mane is like the fuckin' Flu...and it's Flu season. There's no escapin' his charbroiled ass, even if you don't fuck with him chances are your favorite rapper or singer does. As much as I wanna dislike him, I really have no place to talk. *cues up Usher's Confessions* I actually purchased a Silkk Da Shocker CD when I was in high school. *hangs head in shame* So can I really hate on Gucci Mane?

Birdman - More Milli Ft. Drake
I see Birdman is gonna ride this Drake thing until the wheels fall off. Every song I've heard from his upcoming album has Drake on it. I can't blame him though, he didn't get rich by being an idiot. He know's that nobody in their right mind wants to hear him rap at all, so he might as well soften the blow by having "The Yellow One" rap with him.

Chris Brown - So Cold
Umm....I think he's talking about Rihanna. Ri Ri must've had that good good because this brother is making it quite clear that he wants her back....Simp.

Nahom Grymes Is In Desperate Need...

...of attention and a new hit song. Unfortunately, I can only help him out with one of those, so here it goes...

You're probably wonderin' who in the hell is Nahom Grymes? Well, that's J. Holiday's real name. You know, he's the one-hit wonder who had that song called "Bed". Remember that song that had those really dumb ass deep lyrics like, "love is war and I'm your soldier". I just called him by his real name because that's what they're going to put on his name tag...

...once he starts working at Wendy's, so he might as well get used to it. Anyway, in an effort to get some attention, J. Holiday decided to diss Drake by remaking his song "Brand New". I know you're thinkin' what in the hell could he be mad at Drake for? Well a line from the song kind of explains it all...

"can't stand these rap niggas steady tryin' to sing...tryin' to take my spot."

Yep. That's not a typo, apparently Drake is "tryin" to take J. Holiday's spot. J. Holiday has a spot?!? At this point I think it's pretty clear that J. Holiday is getting high. Not high like, get a White Owl, roll a blunt high...I'm talking red nose, crusty lips, dirty needle, stealing his momma's flat screen tv high.

This guy can't be serious considering the fact that his most recent album, Round 2, which was released back in March sold 55,000 copies in its first week. Drake's EP, So Far Gone, which was released last month sold 73,000 copies in its first week. So to put things into perspective, Drake sold roughly 18,000 more copies than J. Holiday in their respective first weeks....18,000 more copies of an EP that only had 7 songs on it and out of those 7 songs, 6 were given away for free wayyyy back in February. Not to mention, that if you head over to Billboard's Top Hip-Hop and R&B Songs and Singles Chart you'll find Drake on there quite a few times...

#3 "Successful" - Drake Feat. Trey Songz
#9 "Forever" - Drake Feat. Kanye West, Eminem & Lil' Wayne
#15 "I Invented Sex" - Trey Songz Ft. Drake
#27 "Best I Ever Had" - Drake Ft. Lil' Wayne
#38 "Every Girl" - Young Money Entertainment
#47 "Im Going In" - Drake Feat. Lil' Wayne & Young Jeezy

...and that's out of 50 spots. Btw J. Holiday is nowhere to be found on that chart. So what spot is he referring to?

Hey Nahom, if you had any sense at all you would've been tryin' to work with Drake considering the buzz that he has going right now. But no, you think dissing him is going to work in your favor....good luck with that. Don't worry though, next time I go to Wendy's and order a Spicy Chicken sandwich I'll know that somewhere out there you're at a Wendy's.....with a name tag that says Nahom. Oh one more thing, if you're going to remake somebody's song and use it to diss them, at least make the song as good, if not better than the original because this shit is horrible...

J. Holiday - Brand New (Drake Diss)

Just in case you don't have the original version by Drake...
Drake - Brand New

Speaking of Drake, if you want to read about Drake's upcoming album, Thank Me Later and his first single, "Shut It Down" featuring The-Dream head over to Billboard.com.

New Royce Da 5'9", Usher, Young Jeezy, Crooked I...

Royce Da 5'9" - Dinner Time Ft. Busta Rhymes
Royce. Is. A. Beast. Plain and simple. This is off the Street Hop EP, which is scheduled to drop October 20th.

Usher - Papers
Now he wants the (divorce) papers...I guess whatever root or spell Tameka put on him has completely wore off. Well she came up, because from what I remember Usher was so head-over-heels for her busted ass he didn't even get a pre-nup.

Young Jeezy - I Got This
It's pretty hard to not like Jeezy. This isn't a club banger, but I fux with it. Not sure if it's on Thug Motivation103 or not.

Crooked I - Guess Who's Back Ft. Snoop Dogg
This off of Crooked's upcoming EP, Mr. Pig Face Weapon Waist. Don't ask me why, but I really like the title. Crooked doesn't really go in on this like he's capable of doing but it's decent.

Tuesday, September 29, 2009

New Young Money, Ghostface Killah, 50 Cent, Lloyd...

Young Money Entertainment - Bed Rock Ft. Lil Wayne, Gudda Gudda, Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga, Jae Millz & Lloyd [Full Version]
Nicki Minaj's rap voice is irritating as hell and since I've come to the realization that I can't see her ass while I listen to her rap on this song, they might as well had left her off. Gudda Gudda needs to getta getta day job cuz he's terrible. Other than that I fux with this song. Oh yeah, Omarion was on the original version, then he was dropped asked to be released from Young Money so they replaced him with Lloyd.....Lloyd > Omarion

Ghostface Killah - Back Like That Remix Ft. Kanye West & Ne-Yo
Ghost always goes in when talking about relationships...the original version of this song is one of my favorite Ghostface songs. Btw this is a bonus song off of Ghostdini Wizard Of Poetry In Emerald City which dropped on today....go and support real rap.

50 Cent - Dreamin’ (prod. Dr. Dre)
So I'm just gonna assume that it's a wrap for 50's rap career. I mean he's dropped some really good singles over the past year ("Get It In", "Get Up" & "Okay, You're Right") and yet they've failed to spark any interest in his eternally delayed album, Before I Self-Destruct. Then again if he drops anything remotely close to this again, he might as well retire.

Lloyd - Pusha Ft. Lil Wayne [Mastered]
Ummm I've said it before and I'm going to say it again...Lloyd's last album was on point. That is all.

Sunday, August 23, 2009

New Apathy, Birdman, Estelle, Drake, Shawty Lo...

Apathy - True Love Ft. Phonte
I've never heard of Apathy before this, but I'll give anything a listen if it involves anybody from the Little Brother/Foreign Exchange/J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League crew. This features Phonte so it was a must listen for me. I'm glad I checked this out because the shit is pretty dope. Apathy's upcoming album is titled Wanna Snuggle?, that's hilarious....to me.

Birdman aka Baby - Money To Blow Ft. Drake & Lil' Wayne
Ummm this song is old. The original version came out over a year ago...before everybody set up permanent residency on Drizzy's balls. Anywho, the original was made by some guy named Jerz Y.A. and it featured Drake ------> Jerz Y.A. - Money To Blow Ft. Drake

Estelle - All Nite Long Ft. John Legend & Ludacris
I don't know what to say about this song....okay, yes I do. This song sucks. Estelle is sing-rapping, John Legend sings the tired ass chorus and Ludacris' verse just seems out of place and unnecessary. Btw I hate when people spell 'night' this way ---> nite.

Drake - Killer Ft. Nipsey Hussle
I fux wit this. I've never listened to anything with Nipsey Hussle on it before this....I just couldn't get pass the name.

Shawty Lo - A Town Ft. Ludacris, Gucci Mane & The-Dream
This is obviously supposed to be an Atlanta rap anthem....I think they could've went harder.

The Ivy League - Orientation...

It's time for you to get familiar...check out the The Ivy League's new EP Orientation which includes guest appearances from Mikkey Halsted and Jidae, and production from Tony Baines, Krytical Dyverse, and Mikey Fresh.

"Ivy League Muh-Fucka!!!" (c) NovaKane.

Download link, tracklist, video for the song "Everywhere" and The Ivy League's MTV Bio can all be found after the jump.

Just in case you're not familiar, here's The Ivy League's MTV Bio...

Head over to www.ivyleagueil.com for more info.

The Ivy League - Everywhere (directed by Da Visionaryz)...

New Eve, Whitney Houston, Rick Ross, Eminem...

Late pass on these....I'm playin' catch up...

Eve - Me N My (Up In The Club)
Don't you just hate when actors/actresses try to rap? Oh yeah, she was a rapper first. Soooo all of the Eve fans who've been anxiously awaiting her return to rap, please make some noise!!
..........*crickets*.....................*tumbleweed rolls by*........

Whitney Houston - I Look To You
This is a beautiful song. *tear drop* I'm glad she's back....I just hope she's not referring to crack when she says "I look to you". Well, even if she's referring to crack it doesn't take away from the song. Random thought: If somebody would've told me back when Moesha was on tv that Brandy's little brother would be bussin' down Whitney Houston in the future I would've thought they were on crystal meth.

Rick Ross - Lay Back Pt. 2 Ft. Robin Thicke
Part 1 was on Deeper Than Rap....which wasn't a bad album. The only thing that changed on this version was Ricky's verses.

Eminem - Warning Ft. Mariah Carey's voicemail messages
Nick Cannon should whoop Eminem's ass. It's that simple. After all the shots that Eminem's sent at Mariah Carey over the years, she finally responds by mocking him in her song/video "Obsessed" and he comes back with an actual diss record.

"The only reason I dissed you in the first place was because you denied seeing me" - Eminem

I mean really? Because she denied seeing you? What did you expect her to do? Come out and say "Oh yeah, I was crazy about Em and I let him bust me down once." How old are you? So what she denied that you two ever "talked".....you're suppose to be a grown ass man. If you never ran around tellin' your business, she wouldn't have had anything to deny in the first place. Em go take some prescription pills...seriously.

New Fabolous, Amerie, Slaughterhouse, Trey Songz, The Roots...

Fabolous - Throw It In The Bag Ft. Drake
This is 10x better than the original version. I know that's not sayin' much...but still.

Amerie - Why R U Remix Ft. Nas, Jadakiss, Rick Ross & Cain
Bless her fine little heart....she's still tryin'.

Slaughterhouse - Cuckoo
I'm takin' it old school and buying this album from an actual brick and mortar store...August 11th I will be at Best Buy.

Trey Songz - Best I Ever Had Remix
I like this, but I really hope this is the last time anybody does a remix of this song.

The Roots - How I Got Over
It's The Roots....need I say more?
