The Thought of H-Town and Jodeci...

..making a song together would be hot if it was 1993. Unfortunately for them, it's 2009 and....well, there is no "and". The fact that it's 2009 should be reason for them to leave well enough alone, but nope they had to go and do this...
Umm "Knockin Da Boots 2K9 Yo Heels Off"??....I'm speechless...and confused. I mean how in the hell did this come about? Has there been a demand for a Jodeci and H-Town collaboration that I just somehow managed to miss? I mean seriously, I don't think anybody's been holding their breath to hear these two groups together...if they were they would've died about 16 years ago. I guess they're both planning a comeback and they figure two washed-up 90's R&B groups are better than one. *sigh* What's next?

Mokenstef and Zhane'? Fuck it...let's take back even further, what about Ready For The World and Troop? The sad part is that I was a fan of both of these groups...but damn, sometimes you don't have to see the credits roll to know that the movie's over. Smh, well in their defense this would've been a hit back in the early '90s. I just hope that they don't go on tour together because you know what happens when K-CI & JoJo perform...

The New N.E.R.D...

...goes by the name Rhea and if I ever meet her, despite the fact that her head looks a little too big for her body, I will try to have sex with her. Okay, just thought I'd get the important stuff out the way, movin' on...

So by now I'm sure you've heard that N.E.R.D. has added a female member to the group. Being that N.E.R.D. is one of my favorite groups, I wasn't too sure how I felt about the news when I first heard it.

Then I saw her and I thought "Well, adding a female to the group might not be such a bad idea".

So how in the hell did she end up a member of N.E.R.D.? Well, it's a pretty short story. Rhea, who's a Toronto native of Guyanese descent, auditioned for the fellas via Skype, sang "His Eye Is on the Sparrow" and signed with the group shortly afterward. Pharrell recently spoke to MTV about the groups upcoming album, Instant Gratification and how having Rhea in the group contributes to their new sound...

"Musically, we're just somewhere else [with her]....the music is now very 3-D. It's something you have to hear. But you'll see. We're definitely somewhere else. I want to leave that impact moment for when you purchase your download and you purchase your CD. The music is very three-dimensional. We're just really excited. We feel like N.E.R.D. has always been the punks of hip-hop and the outcasts of alternative music — just a little different. But this time, we're taking no prisoners."

"Now you have this little Tinkerbell that's just stepped in and has been amazing...it's made it a fun process. We can go in so many more directions, because we have the vocal support."

Well, I'm interested to see how this turns out. I just hope they're not going all Black Eyed Peas on me, in an effort to gain more commercial success. Anyway, here's the latest song from N.E.R.D., btw it doesn't feature Rhea...

N.E.R.D. - Soldier Ft. Santigold

Not sure if this is going to be on Instant Gratification, but I wouldn't be disappointed if it wasn't.

Fat Joe - Joey Don't Do It...

This video was released a while back before J.O.S.E. 2 dropped, for some reason I never got around to posting it until now. Usually I would say fuck it...that ship has sailed, but this shit goes too hard and that sample is just too crazy for me not to post it.

"Got the super soaker for super jokers that's super cho cha/
Stupid is what stupid does now move it coca/
I'm a prove it's over, you ain't got a chance/
and I don't even need a gun I know how to dance"

Considering the fact you probably don't have Joe's album...
Fat Joe - Joey Don't Do It (Hey Joe)

New Robin Thicke, Big Boi, Birdman, Chris Brown...

Robin Thicke - Sex Therapy
WARNING: This is some greazy shit. I'm talking rose petals, bubble bath, candles, tripod, camcorder, Rachel Ray Olive Oil, maple syrup, strawberries, french toast, turkey bacon, omelette type shit. Sorry I went off on a tangent, but it's been a while since I've had a nice breakfast. *sigh* I'm a big hungry bastard...

Big Boi - Shine Blockas Ft. Gucci Mane
Damn, Gucci Mane is like the fuckin' Flu...and it's Flu season. There's no escapin' his charbroiled ass, even if you don't fuck with him chances are your favorite rapper or singer does. As much as I wanna dislike him, I really have no place to talk. *cues up Usher's Confessions* I actually purchased a Silkk Da Shocker CD when I was in high school. *hangs head in shame* So can I really hate on Gucci Mane?

Birdman - More Milli Ft. Drake
I see Birdman is gonna ride this Drake thing until the wheels fall off. Every song I've heard from his upcoming album has Drake on it. I can't blame him though, he didn't get rich by being an idiot. He know's that nobody in their right mind wants to hear him rap at all, so he might as well soften the blow by having "The Yellow One" rap with him.

Chris Brown - So Cold
Umm....I think he's talking about Rihanna. Ri Ri must've had that good good because this brother is making it quite clear that he wants her back....Simp.

Random Quote: Sean Price...

Sean Price is one of the realest rappers out, there's no denying it...he's the epitome of grimey, gully, hood, etc. XXL recently interviewed him about his upcoming mixtape Kimbo Price and album Mic Tyson, his unwillingness to get involved with rap politics and a possible reunion with some old rap friends. They also asked him about life after rap and of course his answer was nothing less than real.

XXL: Since you’re growing tired of the politics of the rap game what’s on the horizon for you after these releases?

Next year you might find me workin’ in Costco or some shit. I’m dead ass serious, ’cause I don’t got money like that to retire and fall back on a yacht. People might say, “Yo, man, you supposed to be here and blah blah.” Yeah, I’m supposed to be but guess where I’m at? Costco. Now don’t get it twisted, I’m not starvin’ and I’m good, but I don’t give a fuck about pride. My kids can’t eat pride so as long as I take care of my family I don’t give a fuck.

*Applauds* That's the type of attitude you're suppose to have when you have mouths to feed. There are a lot of "men" out here that have a warped sense of entitlement and feel like they're too good to do certain things. Hate to break it to you bum ass fuckas ....NOBODY OWES YOU SHIT. If you have kids, turn off the video games, get off your ass and go flip burgers if you have to. Whatever it takes to provide for the human beings you helped bring into this world....you need to do it. I don't even have kids and I've worked some pretty shitty jobs, mainly while I was in college. All because I wanted to get a piece of toilet paper college degree. So if you have kids to take care of there's really no excuse. Movin on...

There's not a lot of upcoming mixtapes/albums that I'm excited about, but I'm anxiously awaiting Kimbo Price and Mic Tyson. To read the rest of the interview and to see what Sean P has to say about a possible Fab 5 reunion head over to XXL.

BtwI just felt like posting this video. Talk about a posse cut...this shit was crazy.

VH1 Hip-Hop Honors 2009: Def Jam...

I figured I'd throw this up just in case you missed it last night or you don't have cable so all you could do was read Twitter updates about it. Anywho, this should knock an hour out of your work day...enjoy. Btw this is the whole show (I think), commercials included.

Side Note: About 10 years ago, you couldn't pay VH1 to play anything remotely rap related...now they're honoring Def Jam. I remember when Mariah Carey dropped that video for "Fantasy" and they had their own VH1 version without Ol' Dirty Bastard's verse. Now it's coonery central, any black person that wants to make an ass of themselves can get a show on VH1.

Nahom Grymes Is In Desperate Need...

...of attention and a new hit song. Unfortunately, I can only help him out with one of those, so here it goes...

You're probably wonderin' who in the hell is Nahom Grymes? Well, that's J. Holiday's real name. You know, he's the one-hit wonder who had that song called "Bed". Remember that song that had those really dumb ass deep lyrics like, "love is war and I'm your soldier". I just called him by his real name because that's what they're going to put on his name tag...

...once he starts working at Wendy's, so he might as well get used to it. Anyway, in an effort to get some attention, J. Holiday decided to diss Drake by remaking his song "Brand New". I know you're thinkin' what in the hell could he be mad at Drake for? Well a line from the song kind of explains it all...

"can't stand these rap niggas steady tryin' to sing...tryin' to take my spot."

Yep. That's not a typo, apparently Drake is "tryin" to take J. Holiday's spot. J. Holiday has a spot?!? At this point I think it's pretty clear that J. Holiday is getting high. Not high like, get a White Owl, roll a blunt high...I'm talking red nose, crusty lips, dirty needle, stealing his momma's flat screen tv high.

This guy can't be serious considering the fact that his most recent album, Round 2, which was released back in March sold 55,000 copies in its first week. Drake's EP, So Far Gone, which was released last month sold 73,000 copies in its first week. So to put things into perspective, Drake sold roughly 18,000 more copies than J. Holiday in their respective first weeks....18,000 more copies of an EP that only had 7 songs on it and out of those 7 songs, 6 were given away for free wayyyy back in February. Not to mention, that if you head over to Billboard's Top Hip-Hop and R&B Songs and Singles Chart you'll find Drake on there quite a few times...

#3 "Successful" - Drake Feat. Trey Songz
#9 "Forever" - Drake Feat. Kanye West, Eminem & Lil' Wayne
#15 "I Invented Sex" - Trey Songz Ft. Drake
#27 "Best I Ever Had" - Drake Ft. Lil' Wayne
#38 "Every Girl" - Young Money Entertainment
#47 "Im Going In" - Drake Feat. Lil' Wayne & Young Jeezy

...and that's out of 50 spots. Btw J. Holiday is nowhere to be found on that chart. So what spot is he referring to?

Hey Nahom, if you had any sense at all you would've been tryin' to work with Drake considering the buzz that he has going right now. But no, you think dissing him is going to work in your favor....good luck with that. Don't worry though, next time I go to Wendy's and order a Spicy Chicken sandwich I'll know that somewhere out there you're at a Wendy's.....with a name tag that says Nahom. Oh one more thing, if you're going to remake somebody's song and use it to diss them, at least make the song as good, if not better than the original because this shit is horrible...

J. Holiday - Brand New (Drake Diss)

New Royce Da 5'9", Usher, Young Jeezy, Crooked I...

Royce Da 5'9" - Dinner Time Ft. Busta Rhymes
Royce. Is. A. Beast. Plain and simple. This is off the Street Hop EP, which is scheduled to drop October 20th.

Usher - Papers
Now he wants the (divorce) papers...I guess whatever root or spell Tameka put on him has completely wore off. Well she came up, because from what I remember Usher was so head-over-heels for her busted ass he didn't even get a pre-nup.

Young Jeezy - I Got This
It's pretty hard to not like Jeezy. This isn't a club banger, but I fux with it. Not sure if it's on Thug Motivation103 or not.

Crooked I - Guess Who's Back Ft. Snoop Dogg
This off of Crooked's upcoming EP, Mr. Pig Face Weapon Waist. Don't ask me why, but I really like the title. Crooked doesn't really go in on this like he's capable of doing but it's decent.

Def Jam Covers XXL...

...for their upcoming November Issue which celebrates Def Jam's 25th Anniversary. I guess I'll let XXL tell you all about the issue:

"XXL’s new issue will include memorable tales from the MCs about the famed label, along with a complete discography of Def Jam releases and a comprehensive timeline of the brand’s biggest moments. Behind the scenes masterminds, Russell Simmons, Lyor Cohen and Kevin Liles sit for the first time to share their memories and Rick Rubin also takes a look back at the legacy of Def Jam."

Um that cover's cool and all, but where's Russell Simmons, Rick Rubin, Lyor Cohen, Kevin Liles, Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, Jay-Z, Ja-Rule, DMX & Ludacris? I know that some, okay damn near all (I think) of these people are no longer on/affiliated with Def Jam but I'll be damn if they didn't play extremely critical roles in the history of Def Jam.

Somewhere there's a ball...that was dropped...by XXL.

Anywho, hit the jump to see what I think is one of the dopest Def Jam posse cuts ever...

*sigh* Man this was like the hip-hop golden age. Method Man, Redman, DMX and LL all on one track just going in. Of course the one above is the revised version, the one where LL took Percy and Canibus off, leaving only Def Jam artists.

Smh at the fact Canibus changed his verse because L got offended, only for L to go and re-write his verse answering Canibus' old verse. Then L turned around and released the video with Canibus' new verse (w/o the "diss") and put his new verse (with the answer to the "diss") in it. Then to add insult to jury, L just completey removed Canibus from the video all together...and the "Bitch Move" award goes to LL Cool J. Oh well, here's the original video with Canibus and Percy...

Damn, poor Canibus. A lot of people think that L killed Canibus' career...well I'd have to disagree. His career was over before it started...he had Wyclef as his manager and executive producer. Damn I got side tracked...back to Def Jam, be sure to check out VH1's Hip Hop Honors which will also be celebrating the 25th anniversary of Def Jam on Tuesday, October 13th.

Foreign Exchange - I Wanna Know...

Here's the 3rd video off of Phonte and Nicolay's album, Leave It All Behind. Their videos are always pretty simple and straight to the point...that's probably why I like them so much.

Just in case you missed their previous videos:
The Foreign Exchange - House of Cards Ft. Musinah
The Foreign Exchange - Take Off The Blues/Valediction

Bonus:
Apathy - True Love Ft. Phonte
I posted this song a while back but I don't think people actually took the time out to really listen to it. Do yourself a favor and check it out, both Phonte and Apathy go in on this track.

Random Quote: Lloyd...

Gonzo, I mean Lloyd was recently interviewed by Hip Hop Weekly and when he was asked about his relationship with Ciara, whom he's been friends with for several years (prior to either becoming famous), he said...

"I don't fuck with Hollywood bitches and she's like one of the chicks that's just changed along the way with the fame and the money and all of that. I don't really get down with her anymore on some real shit. The truth hurts, but it will set you free. But I wish her all the best."

Ummm well then...I guess that's that. Well in C-error's defense her last album, Fantasy Ride, was a complete fail, her videos were wack and she completely disrepected comic books with that wacktacular ass album cover. Okay, so that wasn't really in her defense. But unless she's grinding, gyrating or slow winding in a video, I could care less about C-error or what Lloyd thinks about her. I just posted this to show you that Lloyd is a long lost descendant of the Cleveland Indians.
